Financial Analyst - Utilities

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Financial Analyst specializing in Utilities to support financial planning, rate analysis, regulatory reporting, and operational performance evaluation. This role is responsible for analyzing utility-related financial data, forecasting revenue and expenses, supporting rate case filings, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate combines strong financial acumen with an understanding of the utilities industry (electric, gas, water, or renewable energy).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field (required)
- 2–5+ years of financial analysis experience, preferably within utilities or the energy sector
- Experience with regulatory environments and cost-of-service analysis is a plus
- Strong financial modeling and forecasting skills
- Advanced proficiency in Excel; experience with ERP and financial systems
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Collaborative team player with strong stakeholder engagement skills
Nice To Haves
- Experience in electric, gas, water/sewer utilities
- Knowledge of utility rate structures and energy markets
Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports related to utility operations
- Monitor revenue streams, operating costs, capital expenditures, and return on investment
- Conduct variance analysis and provide actionable insights to leadership
- Support annual budgeting and long-term financial planning processes
- Prepare load forecasts, revenue projections, and expense forecasts
- Assist in the preparation of rate case filings and regulatory submissions
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements
- Analyze performance metrics such as system efficiency, loss ratios, and service reliability
- Evaluate financial impact of policy changes, fuel cost adjustments, and market fluctuations
- Conduct benchmarking reporting
