Financial Analyst Intern – Summer 2026

Istari DigitalArlington, VA
1d$25 - $25Hybrid

About The Position

Istari is a digital engineering software company enabling our customers to turn the physical world into the digital to accomplish their specific mission or business objectives. Istari was founded with the vision of making open, scalable digital engineering ecosystems a reality – where new technologies and systems are created digitally, free from the real-world constraints of costs and schedules. We are creating the world’s best engineering model sharing platform, allowing our customers to simply and securely integrate their models across different engineering disciplines, organizations, and security levels. At Istari, we are passionate about our mission of creating the world's first open and scalable industrial metaverse. Whether our customers are designing prototypes, performing virtual testing, or training AI and autonomy for complex systems, we know that going digital will save them time, resources, and reduce their environmental impact. While we are a distributed team with most team-members working remotely, we place an emphasis on staying connected and collaborative, prioritizing in-person opportunities to build trust as a team. At Istari, we still believe that trust is best built in-person. To do this, we have an engineering headquarters in Cambridge, MA for focused technical development and several times per year we gather for an off-site that allows us to develop our professional skills and our team relationships. We're looking for a driven and analytically sharp Financial Analyst Intern to join our Finance team for the summer. This is a hands-on role — you'll work directly with the FP&A Manager on real projects that matter to the business, not busy work. You'll gain rare exposure to the financial operations of a scaling defense-tech SaaS company, including government contract financials, SaaS metrics, and the internal reporting that informs executive and investor decisions.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field
  • Strong Excel skills — you should be comfortable building models, not just reading them
  • Familiarity with financial statements and basic accounting concepts
  • Curiosity about SaaS business models and/or the defense and government contracting landscape
  • Ability to work independently, ask smart questions, and thrive in a fast-moving startup environment
  • Strong attention to detail and clear written and verbal communication skills
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required (due to the nature of our work with the Department of Defense)

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to SaaS metrics or subscription business models
  • Familiarity with government contract types (FFP, T&M, cost-plus)
  • Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI) or SQL/Python

Responsibilities

  • Support the build-out and maintenance of financial models across our SaaS and defense contract business lines
  • Help develop and maintain a SaaS metrics dashboard tracking KPIs such as ARR, churn, CAC, LTV, and net revenue retention
  • Assist with monthly budget vs. actuals reporting and variance analysis
  • Contribute to segment-level P&L reporting across our government and commercial revenue streams
  • Support headcount and OpEx modeling as the company continues to scale
  • Conduct industry and competitive research to inform financial planning
  • Assist in the preparation of materials for leadership and investor reporting
