About The Position

Kyowa Kirin is a fast-growing global specialty pharmaceutical company that applies state-of-the-art biotechnologies to discover and deliver novel medicines in four disease areas: bone and mineral; intractable hematologic; hematology oncology; and rare disease. A Japan-based company, our goal is to make people smile by delivering breakthroughs where no adequate treatments currently exist, working from drug discovery to product development and commercialization. In North America, we are headquartered in Princeton, NJ, with offices in California, Massachusetts, and Ontario. The Financial Analyst III will support a newly established greenfield site within a biopharmaceutical organization. This position is pivotal in driving robust financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and strategic decision-making for the site's startup and ongoing operations. Working closely with the Director of Finance, the Financial Analyst III will leverage their expertise to optimize capital allocation, operational efficiency, and overall financial performance in a highly regulated, rapidly evolving environment.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree, preferably Bachelor's degree, in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • MBA in Finance Preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive financial analysis experience, ideally in the life sciences or biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Demonstrated success working on capital-intensive projects, such as greenfield or large-scale expansions.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific considerations (R&D costing, regulatory approvals, manufacturing scale-up) is a plus.
  • Experience working in small to medium-sized organizations is a plus.
  • Experience in starting up and operating a biopharma manufacturing facility is a plus.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI, Word, DataRails).
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (i.e., MS Dynamics), financial reporting software, and internal budgeting software (Tagetik).
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and other relevant accounting principles.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, analyze, and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports specific to the greenfield site's setup and ramp-up phases.
  • Conduct variance analysis, identify trends, and provide actionable insights that can influence cost efficiency and revenue generation.
  • Assist in preparing financial dashboards and presentations for senior leadership, highlighting site-specific milestones and performance metrics.
  • Coordinate the development of annual site budgets to ensure accurate projections of start-up expenses, capital investments, and operational costs.
  • Update rolling forecasts to reflect changes in project timelines, regulatory requirements, or market conditions, ensuring timely and accurate projections for the greenfield site.
  • Provide variance analysis against budgets and forecasts, flagging potential financial risks or opportunities and recommending corrective actions.
  • Upload changes and future budgets in our internal financial system (Tagetik).
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with GAAP, IFRS (if applicable), and other relevant accounting standards, with particular attention to industry-specific regulations (FDA, EMA, etc.).
  • Support internal and external audit processes by compiling and reviewing financial documentation related to the greenfield site.
  • Monitor and reinforce internal control frameworks, particularly for new systems or processes implemented at the site.
  • Identify and recommend process enhancements to improve the speed and accuracy of financial reporting and analysis, particularly in a start-up environment where systems and processes are still being established.
  • Advocate for best practices in financial planning and analysis, leveraging automation and digital tools where possible.
  • Establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders (locally and in our Corp offices), ensuring alignment with their business needs and priorities.
  • Prepare and present accurate financial analysis reports tailored to project and organizational requirements, offering actionable insights and consultation that support informed decision-making.
  • Prepare and deliver ad-hoc reports as required, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and alignment with the specific needs of the request.
