About The Position

The salary is determined in accordance with the University’s compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates’ education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position. The Office for Budgets is dedicated to assisting the University, in an impeccable manner, achieve its first-class status in teaching, research, and service by monitoring funds entrusted to the University, ensuring that those funds are used for the purpose intended by applicable laws, policies, rules and regulations. The Financial Analyst I, under general supervision, prepares projections, analyzes variances, and reports findings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with large data sets.
  • Applicants with equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree may be considered.
  • One year of the related experience is the equivalent of one college year.
  • Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have four years of related experience to meet the equivalency in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree plus the minimum required years of experience.
  • Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have a total of six (6) years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • On a daily basis perform processing of restricted and non-restricted funds data, including, but not limited to encumbrance of funds in the Financial Accounting Management Information System (FAMIS) for Interdepartmental Orders (IDOs), Student Scholarship Awards, and Schedule of Known (Fixed) Cost.
  • On a daily basis, review and take necessary action on Budgetary Account Controls to ensure accounts are not over-expended.
  • Serve as the 1st respondant to customers calls and emails directed to the Office of Budgets to include, but not limited to creating Departmental Budget Requests (DBRs)
  • On monthly basis prepare and maintain budgetary analysis of university funds through internal quarterly reporting to CFO, Fiscal Flexibility, and Central Reserves, and Deficit Balances.
  • Request and assist departments with corrective action to clear any deficit balances.
  • On a monthly basis, run financial data queries to analyze the status of IDO’s, Scholarships, and Fixed Cost encumbrances determining the adequacy of the balance and communicate out to the Service Departments and Departmental Units on the action to liquidation current balance and/or encumber additional funds.
  • Twice a month, prepare and perform training to the University Campus for Workday Costing Allocations, Employee Payroll History (EPHIS), and Department Budget Requests (DBR).
  • Prepare, manage, and encumber into FAMIS, the annual Schedule of Known (Fixed) Cost by gathering data from Service Departments and distributing to the campus units for review and approval.
  • Yearly perform Records Retention Management, to include but not limited to determining the retention period for each record type, prepare and route for approval all required documents related to the disposition and/or destruction of records, and witnessing the destruction of all records approved by the University’s Record Retention Management Office to be destroyed.
  • Yearly assist with the preparation of the Annual Operating Budget.
  • Every two years, assist with the Legislative Appropriation Request (LAR) to include compiling data and ABEST entry.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
