About The Position

The Financial Aid Support Specialist is responsible for maintaining a comprehensive basic knowledge of all federal, institutional, and state policies, procedures, and regulations. This role involves greeting visitors, addressing student questions and needs, and routing students to coordinators appropriately. The specialist will maintain a daily intake count of students who visit the office or schedule virtual appointments through navigate. The position serves as the first line of interaction for parents and students entering the financial aid office, which averages over 800 visitors a day. The specialist will provide general financial aid information in keeping with federal regulations, application, and office processes and procedures, and assist students with the application process, including completing the FAFSA application on the web.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Two years of customer service experience working with a diverse population required, preferably in a community college or higher education setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Colleague or another financial aid management system is preferred.
  • Knowledge of working with automated systems.
  • Customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as first line of interaction for parents and students entering the financial aid office.
  • Provides general financial aid information in keeping with federal regulations, application, and office processes and procedures.
  • Reviews incoming documents for accuracy for over 15,000 applicants.
  • Retrieves messages and returns phone calls.
  • Maintains adequate supply of applications, brochures, and other information in public area.
  • Provides assistance to students completing the FAFSA application on the web.
  • Completes and certifies all third-party verification forms including secondary confirmation requests such as Department of Rehabilitation Services and consortium agreements.
  • Assists with document imaging and posting documents to the college database, Colleague.
  • Assists with call campaigns to support registration efforts.
  • Assists with undeliverable funds reports.
  • Assists with the presentation of financial aid workshops.
  • Provides optimal customer service.
  • Performs related work as required.
