About The Position

The Financial Aid Specialist - FAFSA and Outreach - Program Specialist 3 at Spokane Community College plays a crucial role in the Financial Aid Office, working under the direction of the Director of Financial Aid. Requirements

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution or equivalent mix of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Two years of experience in financial aid, student services, or related area of higher education.
  • Knowledge of federal and state programs and regulations that provide financial assistance to students.
  • Experience with federal software, the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS), or student management systems (PeopleSoft).

Responsibilities

  • Plan and provide presentations to individuals and groups.
  • Organize and oversee outreach events.
  • Interpret and apply rules, regulations, and policies of the district and of federal and state financial aid programs.
  • Analyze financial and educational needs of students and make appropriate referrals.
  • Assist students to define budgets to meet their educational needs and maintain a manageable debt burden.
  • Produce informational materials.
  • Provide effective customer service and communicate effectively.
  • Maintain cooperative working relationships and demonstrate sensitivity to a diverse population.
  • Conduct recruitment efforts among targeted groups to promote financial aid availability.
  • Provide assistance to incarcerated individuals eligible for Pell Grants.
  • Assist at Bigfoot Central front desk for student-facing processes.
  • Analyze and evaluate documentation to determine financial aid file completion and student eligibility.
  • Provide complex counseling, assistance, and problem-solving regarding financial aid, payment, and refunds.
  • Maintain knowledge of Federal Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements.
  • Assist in developing and establishing procedures and policies for new programs.
  • Work on special projects for the Director/Associate Director and serve as an intercampus contact for the Financial Aid Office.
  • Maintain accurate reporting to COD/DOE of all financial aid eligible student records.
  • Anticipate potential conflict and attempt resolution before problems occur.
  • Exercise professional judgment in interpreting rules and regulations and evaluating unusual circumstances.
  • Maintain knowledge of policies of other departments and their impact on financial aid eligibility.
