About The Position

Berkeley City College (BCC) is seeking a Financial Aid Specialist for a temporary position. The role involves assisting in the planning, development, implementation, and coordination of the college's financial aid program. The position is under the direction of the Financial Aid Program Supervisor and requires processing student financial aid applications, analyzing financial needs, and advising students and parents on eligibility and responsibilities of financial aid programs. The specialist will also maintain student files, prepare reports, and conduct workshops related to financial aid.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in social sciences, business, or related fields.
  • One year of professional experience in financial aid program administration or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Knowledge of current Federal and State financial aid regulations and guidelines.
  • Ability to interpret and apply Federal and State regulations pertaining to financial aid eligibility.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in personal computers and software programs (e.g., MS Office Suite).
  • Understanding and respect for diverse backgrounds of students, faculty, staff, and community.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Process student financial aid applications including BOGFW, FAFSA, Cal Grants, and federal student loan applications.
  • Analyze and evaluate the financial needs of students using federal and state guidelines.
  • Review and evaluate required documentation and package awards according to established guidelines.
  • Inform and advise students and parents regarding eligibility and responsibilities of financial aid programs.
  • Use and maintain complex computer programs to analyze, process, record, retrieve, and verify statistical data.
  • Operate the Electronic Data Exchange (EDE) software to download Institutional Student Information Records (ISIR).
  • Generate, verify, and analyze computer reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with established requirements.
  • Download financial aid records from the SAFE system and transmit electronic data corrections to financial aid applications.
  • Identify and resolve problems related to effective delivery of financial aid.
  • Monitor satisfactory academic progress of financial aid and loan students.
  • Provide input in the preparation and dissemination of public information about student financial assistance.
  • Participate in the compilation of data for State and Federal reports.
  • Participate in the development of annual financial aid budgets.
  • Maintain student files and other records; assist with special projects and prepare reports as requested.
  • Research national student financial aid history data via the U.S. Department of Education National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS).
  • Prepare and present a variety of oral and written reports.
  • Train and provide work direction to student workers and other personnel as assigned.
  • Disseminate information to students on the loan application process and default management plan.
  • Conduct financial aid and/or loan workshops on/off campus and provide support to outreach programs.
  • Reconcile Pell Grant Reports and transmit Pell Grant payment information electronically to the U.S Department of Education.
  • Resolve problems related to overpayments and incorrect disbursements.
  • Maintain current knowledge of financial aid program changes in governmental regulations and procedures.
