About the position

The Financial Aid Officer at National Polytechnic College is responsible for managing all aspects of financial aid services, including counseling students, packaging federal aid, and ensuring compliance with Title IV funding regulations. This role requires a proactive approach to student engagement and retention, as well as collaboration with various departments to support students' financial needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide financial aid counseling for prospective and returning students.
  • Package federal aid and calculate PELL, SEOG, and other loans.
  • Monitor student academic progress and eligibility for fund disbursement.
  • Resolve federal edits and issues related to discrepancy reports.
  • Assist with the production of annual financial aid reports and participate in pre-audit procedures.
  • Coordinate entrance and exit interviews with borrowers and perform refund calculations.
  • Review Title IV paperwork with students for understanding and accuracy.
  • Review tax documents and financial aid paperwork for completeness.
  • Review applications selected for verification.
  • Report status of packaging to Campus Director and Financial Aid Director weekly.
  • Acknowledge students throughout their program for retention and timely payments.
  • Assist with default management and follow up with students who have account balances.
  • Maintain professional relationships with staff and students.
  • Keep in contact with student referral agencies regarding changes in federal/state laws.
  • Report incidents of non-compliance to the Director of Operations or Director.
  • Attend workshops or seminars to learn new techniques or meet standard guidelines.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years experience in financial aid for postsecondary school/college.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Processing VA eligible students is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, NSLDS, and third-party databases (preferably RGM).
  • Professional, team player with excellent communication skills.
