About The Position

The Financial Aid Counselor plays a crucial role in supporting prospective and accepted students at LECOM by providing comprehensive counseling and financial assistance across various programs, including osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, healthcare administration, medical education, biomedical sciences, and post-baccalaureate studies. This position is integral to ensuring that students understand their financial aid options and navigate the complexities of funding their education. The counselor will be responsible for authorizing student payments and refunds, conducting financial aid presentations, and serving as the Veterans Administration Certifying Official for students with veteran status, ensuring they receive the necessary benefits to assist with their educational expenses. In addition to these responsibilities, the Financial Aid Counselor will advise students on the financial aid process, including application procedures, debt management, and maintaining satisfactory academic progress. The role requires awarding federal financial aid in compliance with regulations, certifying and processing student loan applications, and determining financial need to verify aid eligibility. The counselor will also maintain accurate financial records in accordance with federal regulations and assist in developing budgets and educational materials for each academic year. The position involves active participation in campus functions such as commencement ceremonies, orientations, and open houses, as well as engaging in professional development programs. The counselor will communicate regularly with students regarding updates, deadlines, and scholarship opportunities, and will be involved in various clerical tasks necessary to meet departmental goals. The Financial Aid Counselor is expected to embody the mission of LECOM and contribute to institutional fundraising efforts, participate in community outreach, and engage in scholarly activities to enhance the student learning experience.
