About The Position

The Financial Aid Counselor at BRCC is responsible for advising and counseling students and families on the financial aid process, evaluating and reviewing financial aid awards, and making independent adjustments to a student's financial aid profile within federal and state regulations. The role requires maintaining current knowledge of federal and state aid regulations, interpreting financial aid packages, and participating in community events to present financial aid information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Education, Computer Science, Social Science or related field.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work individually as well as part of a team.
  • Knowledge and experience in using a large database system.
  • Demonstrated ability to process and maintain ambiguous and highly confidential information.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a financial aid office or postsecondary institution.
  • Experience performing daily financial aid processes using Banner 9.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and institutional programs and their requirements.
  • Working knowledge of federal financial aid programs and supporting regulations.
  • Working knowledge of Title IV program fund regulations.
  • Working knowledge of U.S. Department of Education rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Advise and counsel students and families on the financial aid process and options for funding a college education.
  • Evaluate and review financial aid awards and process documents.
  • Make independent adjustments to a student's financial aid profile within federal and state regulations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of federal and state aid regulations.
  • Interpret and modify financial aid packages consisting of private, institutional, state, and federal funds.
  • Cross-train with other staff as backup.
  • Rotate with other personnel to handle 'on demand/walk-in' student aid advising.
  • Participate in college night and community events to present financial aid information.
