About The Position

The Financial Aid Advisor, reporting to the Director of Student Financial Services, plays a critical role in supporting prospective and current undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students at TKU with various financial aid processes. This position involves reviewing financial aid applications and student/parent documents to determine eligibility in accordance with federal and institutional policies. Requirements

  • High school diploma, required.
  • Accounting experience, required.
  • Strong customer service skills, advocating positively for students and parents.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including public speaking (preferred but not required).
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Criminal Background Verification
  • Maintain emotional control under stress with ability to work in high-intensity, fast-paced and flexible environment.
  • Daily listening, speaking and written communication with people.
  • Lift up to 15 lbs

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree, preferred.
  • Minimum of one year experience in financial aid, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze financial aid applications and confidential financial data to assess eligibility for assistance from institutional, federal, and state programs.
  • Process student loans, including monitoring aspects such as Master Promissory Notes (MPN), loan counseling, and annual limits.
  • Ensure students continue to meet SAP standards by reviewing their academic performance and communicating with students about their eligibility.
  • Provide timely, professional advice to prospective students and families regarding costs, financial aid policies, procedures, and available funding options.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations by staying informed about current legislation and implementing necessary changes.
  • Communicate effectively with borrowers and maintain supportive interactions with students.
  • Collaborate with team members to manage workload and ensure quality service.
  • Maintain accurate records as required by governing entities (e.g., DOE, TRACS, ABHE) and ensure all reports and documents are filed correctly.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
