About the position

The Financial Aid Advisor I, under direction of Assistant Director of Client Services, counsels and provides student financial aid and scholarship information to prospective and currently enrolled students and their families via phone, email, and appointments. Conducts outreach to assist students with completion of FAFSA/TASFA and outstanding financial aid requirements. Assists in facilitating workshops and presentations on and off campus to groups regarding financial aid and scholarships. Serves as Campus Security Authority (CSA). Work hours: Mon-Fri; 8 AM-5 PM or as work requirements indicate. Some Saturday and evening events are required. Some travel to Fort Worth campus as required. Must have the ability to work remotely at the request of the university in times of inclement weather or other special circumstances.

Responsibilities

  • Counsels students and parents on financial aid information relevant to the individual student situation
  • Monitors the office email and responds to student and parent emails requesting financial aid information
  • Responds to questions and counseling needs in-person, by phone, virtually, and email means from currently enrolled students, prospective students, and parents
  • Conducts outreach for the Office of Financial Aid to assist students with financial aid completion
  • Assists prospective and current students with their verification process
  • Works at Texan Services as needed when short-staffed per the Assistant Director
  • Assists with the intake of verification documents, special circumstance appeals, TASFA applications, and other financial aid documentation
  • Assists with the review of Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeals
  • Maintains knowledge of federal, state, and institutional policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to financial aid
  • Represents the Office of Financial Aid at events and orientations to assist prospective and current students
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to meet deadlines and maintain a high level of accuracy, professionalism and a customer service mindset
  • Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet programs
  • Ability to work individually or as a team in a dynamic organization
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be literate in the English language and able to comprehend, give and follow both written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to organize and make decisions
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Ability to use tact, diplomacy and judgment in dealing with all customers
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
