The Financial Affairs Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the accounting and financial operations of the Genesee County Parks and Recreation. This part-time position involves assisting the Financial Officer with various accounting tasks, managing purchasing processes, and ensuring compliance with financial policies. The role requires a strong understanding of governmental accounting principles and the ability to work effectively in a diverse environment.

Assists Financial Officer with all related accounting duties including audit preparation and preparing financial reports.
Coordinates obtaining bids and purchasing of materials, supplies, and equipment.
Ensures adherence to purchasing policies.
Processes payroll changes accurately and timely.
Conducts cash-handling training and performs on-site auditing of cash.
Reconciles cash receipts with Rec Trac, bank, and credit card statements.
Maintains revenue ledgers and supporting accounting controls for Parks.
Prepares special reports and projects for Parks revenue facilities.
Assists in the development and implementation of reservation software.
Performs related duties as required.

60 semester hours from an accredited college and two years of experience in accounting (governmental accounting preferred) or four years of experience in accounting (governmental accounting preferred).
Knowledge of principles, methods, and practices of governmental accounting.
Ability to prepare and complete accurate accounting and purchasing reports with attention to detail.
Knowledge of county purchasing policies.
Knowledge of Parks payroll policies and understanding of different union contracts.

Ability to use and maintain Rec Trac or other reservation software.
Ability to communicate effectively with others.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural work environment.

Competitive hourly pay with annual increases based on years of service.
