The Financial Affairs Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the accounting and financial operations of the Genesee County Parks and Recreation. This part-time position involves assisting the Financial Officer with various accounting tasks, managing purchasing processes, and ensuring compliance with financial policies. The role requires a strong understanding of governmental accounting principles and the ability to work effectively in a diverse environment.

  • Assists Financial Officer with all related accounting duties including audit preparation and preparing financial reports.
  • Coordinates obtaining bids and purchasing of materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Ensures adherence to purchasing policies.
  • Processes payroll changes accurately and timely.
  • Conducts cash-handling training and performs on-site auditing of cash.
  • Reconciles cash receipts with Rec Trac, bank, and credit card statements.
  • Maintains revenue ledgers and supporting accounting controls for Parks.
  • Prepares special reports and projects for Parks revenue facilities.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of reservation software.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • 60 semester hours from an accredited college and two years of experience in accounting (governmental accounting preferred) or four years of experience in accounting (governmental accounting preferred).
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and practices of governmental accounting.
  • Ability to prepare and complete accurate accounting and purchasing reports with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of county purchasing policies.
  • Knowledge of Parks payroll policies and understanding of different union contracts.
  • Ability to use and maintain Rec Trac or other reservation software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural work environment.
  • Competitive hourly pay with annual increases based on years of service.
