About The Position

The Financial Administrator position at Hawaiian Electric is responsible for overseeing regulatory accounting activities within the Customer Service departments and General Counsel. This role involves managing project costs, budgeting, forecasting, and ensuring compliance with reporting requirements. The Financial Administrator will act as a subject matter expert in regulatory accounting and will lead various financial projects, ensuring that all financial goals are met while maintaining adherence to regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles, including general ledger and cost accounting.
  • Experience with financial software systems and management reports.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory principles and practices, particularly in Hawaii.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, computational, and statistical skills for budget management and project analysis.
  • Excellent written, oral, presentation, and facilitation skills.
  • 5-7 years of experience in accounting, financial and regulatory reporting, and forecasting systems.
  • 3-5 years of experience utilizing project management techniques.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA license is desired.
  • Working knowledge of project management systems.
  • Experience in developing presentations for committees and boards.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage regulatory accounting activities for Customer Service departments and General Counsel.
  • Lead all accounting-related issues and manage project cost allocations across Hawaiian Electric Companies.
  • Develop, coordinate, and oversee cost controls, budgeting functions, and forecasting.
  • Prepare Public Utilities Commission filings and assist in recovering project costs.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for department projects related to regulatory or revenue requirements.
  • Develop and analyze capital and operating forecasts to meet financial goals.
  • Monitor and reconcile department forecast deviations and alert management of discrepancies.
  • Prepare variance reports and manage project cost estimates and schedules.
  • Compile and analyze data for special reports to support program-level and project-specific objectives.
  • Develop and maintain an updated project, contract, and document library for key documents.
  • Participate in company emergency response activities as assigned.
