About the role: Reports to Workday Platform Lead (Technology) We are seeking an experienced and proactive Workday Finance SME to own the functional support, optimisation, and evolution of our Workday Financials capability and associated integrated systems. This role will be a primary liaison between Technology, Finance, and key delivery partners to ensure Workday Financials operates efficiently, remains compliant and audit-ready, and continues to deliver business value post go-live. They will play a key role in the BAU support model: stabilising the platform during Hypercare, transitioning into steady-state support, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring smooth delivery of Workday bi-annual releases and Finance functional enhancements prioritised through the joint governance approach. This role suits someone who is “hands-on” across functional configuration, business process troubleshooting, reporting/controls, and stakeholder management - while working closely with HCM SMEs and an AMS partner for break/fix and capacity support as needed.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable senior experience with Workday Financials in a Technology, Finance Systems, or Change environment within a large/complex organisation.
  • Proven experience operating within (or helping establish) a best-in-class Workday support model, including BAU controls, triage, and release cycles.
  • Strong ability to interpret Finance business requirements and translate them into Workday solutions in consultation with wider technology/architecture stakeholders.
  • Experience working with integrated systems outside of Workday (Finance ecosystem, upstream/downstream feeds, third parties).
  • Confident communicator who can explain complex functional/technical considerations in plain English and adapt style to senior/non-technical audiences.
  • Comfortable managing competing priorities across business lines and regions.
  • Strong reporting/MI mindset - able to build positioning papers, consolidate complex information, and support Tech/Business leadership decision-making.
  • Strong team player with a collaborative mindset, comfortable working across Technology, Finance, HR, and external partners; actively contributes to a positive, high‑performing support team culture and shared ownership of outcomes.
  • Aztec will provide the training, both in-house for relevant technical knowledge and also professional qualifications to enhance your professional development.
  • You will need to be quick to learn new systems and great with people, as close working relationships between our colleagues and clients is at the heart of what we do.

Responsibilities

  • Workday Financials BAU Ownership (Support & Operations)
  • Manage day-to-day functional support for Workday Financials, ensuring issues are triaged, resolved, and communicated with minimal disruption to Finance operations.
  • Troubleshoot functional issues across Workday Financials processes, partnering with Finance SMEs, IT, and the AMS provider where required.
  • Own functional configuration within agreed governance controls (including testing and documentation), ensuring changes are sustainable and auditable.
  • Partner with Security/Controls stakeholders to ensure Finance roles and access remain appropriate and compliant.
  • Ensure data integrity and operational controls are embedded for Finance processes and reporting, aligned to internal policy and external regulatory expectations.
  • Release & Change Delivery (Bi-Annual Workday Releases)
  • Support (and where appropriate lead) Finance impact assessments, prioritisation, testing coordination, and deployment of bi-annual Workday releases and functional upgrades impacting Financials.
  • Own Finance regression testing approach for BAU changes and releases (what’s critical, what’s automated/standardised, what must be proven each cycle).
  • Work through the governance board prioritisation process, shaping Finance demand into clear, deliverable outcomes.
  • Continuous Improvement / Product Enhancement
  • Gather, analyse, and shape Finance requirements into pragmatic Workday solutions (process improvements, controls, usability, reporting outcomes).
  • Manage Finance enhancement backlog items transitioning from project into BAU, including prioritisation, planning, and delivery (in-house + AMS).
  • Drive adoption: ensure new or changed Finance capabilities are supported with documentation and training materials.
  • Reporting, MI & Audit Readiness
  • Coordinate the development and maintenance of Finance reports and dashboards, including operational MI for BAU support, governance, and finance management needs.
  • Support audit and control requirements by ensuring processes are documented, controls are demonstrable, and changes are traceable.
  • Vendor / AMS Partner Management (Finance scope)
  • Work closely with the Workday AMS provider for Finance break/fix, backlog delivery capacity, and specialist support; ensure quality and knowledge transfer into the in-house model.
