The Budget Office is seeking a detail-oriented Finance Manager to support accurate financial reporting, analysis, and variance analysis, while working closely with campus leadership. This is a hybrid position with the option to work remotely part of the week. Your skills will make a difference. The Finance Manager provides accurate analytics through data modeling, analysis, and reporting visualizations, while offering functional expertise to validate, interpret, and document financial data, resolve discrepancies, and clarify business rules.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Management, or Business Administration with at least 6 years of professional-level accounting or financial experience and at least 3 years of Supervisory Experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in accuracy and attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
  • Experience in analyzing large quantities of data.
  • Experience analyzing and documenting business requirements, workflows, rules and processes.
  • Strong proficiency with analytical tools, including Microsoft Excel and PowerBI.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with data analytics and reporting programs (e.g., PowerBI, Cognos, Tableau).
  • Familiarity with University of Texas at Austin’s Accounting system (DEFINE, Budgeting System (BUD), Workday HCM).
  • Five years of work experience in higher education.
  • Knowledge of university, state, federal, and foundation funding policies, procedures, regulations and mechanisms.

Responsibilities

  • Develop reports and analytical insights for predictive budgeting models that support budget development, forecasting, and long-range financial planning.
  • Using internal databases, develop queries and raw data reports that deliver accurate financial data for FAS leadership.
  • Research, document, and maintain financial business rules, definitions, calculation logic, and institutional knowledge by translating system behavior and functional processes into clear reference materials that support consistent interpretation of financial data.
  • Validate reports and models, researching variances, distinguishing data issues from timing or process differences, and documenting root causes through structured analysis.
  • Assist with the implementation of internal controls to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Assist with accounting clean-up efforts by identifying data attributes that are redundant or no longer needed.
