About The Position

Bristol Health’s finance-focused fellowship program invites outstanding finance and accounting graduates or similar field who are interested in a fellowship opportunity for a term of one year. During the course of the period the fellow will gain exposure to organizational wide finance initiatives, analyze financial data, manage a variety of finance/accounting projects, and assist with numerous questions about technical accounting application of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as needed. Under direct supervision and guidance of the Executive Director of Strategic Operations & External Affairs, this position will provide hands-on experience in healthcare finance & accounting with the opportunity to shadow, be mentored and also contribute to a community healthcare organization. After completion of this program, candidates will have a full, well-rounded work experience that is intended to prepare them to compete favorably in their career and also to be considered for available finance positions within the organization. As a Finance fellow, you will comply with Bristol Health’s Finance and organizational policies and procedures. The role will involve the opportunity to perform accounting research, develop business processes & accounting recommendations, and meet with various departmental and organizational leaders involved in the financial reporting process. A portion of the fellow’s time is expected to be devoted to tasks designed to increase their knowledge of the organization as a whole through cooperative efforts with other departments and related entities. This role will require the fellow to develop innovative ideas and problem-solving concepts within the framework of generally accepted accounting principles. The fellow’s responsibilities will include the study of significant accounting issues or concepts, participation in relevant departmental meeting, and evaluation of current accounting processes with the aim of process improvement. Under the direction of the Executive Director of Strategic Operations and External Affairs in partnership with the AVP of Finance, the fellow will complete assigned projects and tasks in alignment with the organization’s business interests. Concluding, the finance fellow will also participate in weekly departmental meetings, attend multidisciplinary project meetings, and will have the opportunity to participate and collaborate with organizational leadership at various levels. This is a paid position. Duration/Timeline: This position is for one year. We will work with school/candidate on the start time.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of financial and accounting principles.
  • Strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have the ability to work on several projects simultaneously, managing projects to completion and providing deliverables as scheduled.
  • Must be able to analyze data and make data-based recommendations.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment of accountability.
  • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
  • Take direction and be self-directed in managing daily tasks and schedules.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
  • In order to be eligible for a finance fellow position, the candidate must currently possess a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or closely related field from an accredited college/institution, be currently enrolled and in a good academic standing pursuing a Master’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration, public health or administration, or a closely related field and is at least half way through the graduate program required number of credits/courses prior to starting the fellowship.
  • The fellow candidate must be available to work during the session indicated and demonstrate leadership/participation in campus programs and/or community service activities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including VLOOKUP and Pivot Tables), Microsoft PowerPoint and a willingness to learn new applications as required.
  • Demonstrated organizational, problem-solving, analytical skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Extended sitting, standing and walking.
  • Occasional lifting of office supplies and materials, not to exceed 50 pounds.
  • Normal office environment with adequate heat, light and ventilation.
  • Position requires the ability to constantly concentrate on fine detail with occasional interruption, and attend to tasks for more than 60 minutes at a time.
  • Candidate must be able to understand and related to theories behind several related concepts, and remember multiple tasks given over long periods of time.
