About The Position

The Controller position at Burkland is a hands-on role responsible for implementing processes and systems for our clients, including mapping out needs, choosing a system, and setting up and implementing the system. This role has variety at its core, facilitating client meetings and overseeing monthly and yearly financial closes. You will be supporting startup clients who need Controller help but may not have a need for an internal team at their growth stage, usually working with Seed through Series C clients. The ability to context shift, communicate, prioritize, and evaluate needs is crucial in this role. You will manage accountants and processes for clients and possibly internally to Burkland, requiring a background in management. Embracing the agile and scrappy nature of startups is a must.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or similar.
• Over 5 years of progressive experience.
• Experience in building and overseeing accounting processes for full cycle accounting.
• Financial statement analysis skills.
• Prior client-facing experience.
• Knowledge of GAAP.

Nice To Haves

• CPA or CMA certification.
• Experience with advanced knowledge of ASC 606 - Revenue Recognition and ASC 842 - Lease Accounting.
• Familiarity with equity accounting and reconciliations for stock and convertible notes.
