About The Position

The Finance Business Analyst assists in the daily operations of diverse financial related duties within the Finance Division of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. This position may supervise or oversee the work of administrative and/or accounting staff. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting.
  • Two (2) years of professional level finance experience.
  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire.
  • Expert level - Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
  • Knowledge of Accounting, budgetary and management principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Skill in Performing sophisticated analysis and interpreting financial performance.
  • Skill in Researching and applying strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to Prepare accounting and financial records.
  • Ability to Communicate effectively in verbal and written formats as appropriate for the audience.
  • Ability to Establish and maintain successful working relationships.
  • Ability to Direct the workflow of others.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with governmental and/or fund accounting concepts and government budgeting.
  • Experience working in a high-volume general ledger environment.

Responsibilities

  • Researches and analyzes financial and performance data using multiple information systems and prepares summary reports for end users.
  • Prepares and posts journal vouchers for any necessary corrections.
  • Completes various reconciliation analyses.
  • Reviews and investigates the financial and operational impact of multiple operational activities and compiles summary reports for end users.
  • Investigates discrepancies proactively, problem solves, provides recommendations based on sound accounting practices, and applies resolution as appropriate.
  • Maintains ledgers, registers, records of initial entry, and control accounts.
  • Grant management, compliance and monitoring, and reporting.
  • Research budget and financial matters and analyzes budget to actual using financial information system reports and tools explaining variances.
  • Ensures accurate and timely accounting, revenue, and expenditures forecasts, in-depth analysis and reporting of departmental financial and related data.
  • Supports the daily activities of the department, including various aspects of internal and external reporting as well as general accounting functions.
  • Reviews, processes and approves a variety of technical transactions.
  • Audits financial records, contracts, documents, and business processes.
  • Assists with contract compliance by reviewing expenditures against the contract for item and/or dollar amount discrepancies.
  • Responds to requests for information; reviews, investigates, and corrects errors in documents and reports; provides technical information to staff as authorized.
  • Participates in financial audits and compliance reviews; assist with document compilation.
  • Assists with annual budget preparation and maintenance.
  • Supervises or oversees the work of accounting staff and special projects when assigned.
  • Prepares various reports and/or billings associated with MCSO financial activity on a monthly, quarterly and year-end basis and in a timely manner.
  • Serves as liaison between MCSO Finance and other County departments.
  • Research and compiles board agenda and contract information.
  • Performs other duties including assisting team members as required.
