About The Position

The Finance and Operations Manager provides high-level comprehensive financial services for the Department of Chemistry, including its chemical stockroom and staff. Manages all University appropriation funds, cost centers, endowments, and gifts, ensuring Brown’s financial policies and procedures are adhered to. Provides financial monitoring, research, reporting, planning, and analytical support for the department. Conducts monthly, quarterly, and annual reports, analyzing data and making recommendations on budget adjustments based on analysis and reports. Serves as the department’s expert on financial business processes, including accessing administrative skill levels and providing training for the management of the stockroom staff. Works and collaborates with the Academic Department Manager (ADM) and Chair to support short—and long-range budget and fund allocation planning. The position will be the liaison to central financial offices, faculty, students, and staff, providing guidance and resolution for daily financial transactions and procedural issues. This position is hybrid-eligible based on the departmental needs.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree is required, A degree in an accounting/ finance degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of administrative, financial, and budget experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent organizational, administrative, and time management skills.
  • Initiative and judgment to independently problem solve.
  • Must have strong financial accounting, forecasting, and/or budgeting skills.
  • Detailed-oriented and strong analytical skills to analyze, reconcile accounts, and follow through.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple tasks and priorities independently in a fast-paced, multi-faceted work environment.
  • Ability to be a vital team member when the situation warrants while maintaining careful attention to detail.
  • High level of computer knowledge. Must be proficient with Excel, including pivot tables, formulas, spreadsheets, databases, and Google platforms.
  • Excellent interpersonal and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Handle confidential information with discretion and maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
