Join our Accounting Team as a Finance and Accounting Senior Manager located in our Washington D.C. office. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in accounting or finance required.
  • Minimum 7 years of accounting experience; law firm or professional services experience highly preferred but not required.
  • 5 years of leadership experience, including collaboration with cross-functional departments.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP.
  • Strong business acumen with exceptional people skills — someone who can collaborate across multiple teams and manage escalations effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written), professional demeanor and presentation, including ability to actively listen and ability to convey information clearly.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a client service mindset, able to anticipate needs, address challenges, and deliver practical, value-added solutions in collaboration with attorneys, and business partners.
  • Ability to multi-task in a high pressure, rapidly changing environment to meet strict deadlines.
  • Recognize confidential, sensitive, and proprietary information and maintain such information as confidential.
  • Advanced technical and analytical skills with the ability to think creatively and develop new solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Partners with the Business Director to drive profitability and growth by identifying key drivers and optimizing resources, while providing clear visibility into practice group performance and delivering actionable recommendations.
  • Leads the accounting, billing, and collections functions for the Firm, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with U.S. GAAP; provide guidance on accounting matters and address questions from attorneys and staff as needed.
  • Monitors and reviews expenses monthly to ensure accuracy, identify trends, and pursue opportunities to manage spending and reduce overhead costs; liaise with the accounting team to process journal entries for expense reclassifications as needed.
  • Manages and mentors accounting staff, fostering a high-performance culture and supporting professional development.
  • Implements short- and long-term strategic initiatives to improve internal controls, reporting capabilities, and operational efficiency.
  • Oversees all financial aspects of the office, including but not limited to budgeting, monthly review of the general ledger, coordination with the Finance team on collection issues, preparation of attorney profitability reports as required by office leadership, and review engagement letters for clients with special billing and/or reporting requirements.
  • Meets with department chairs and individual shareholders regarding productivity, performance, and profitability.
  • Collaborates with attorneys on client reporting needs, including preparing reports and analyses that deliver information and insights tailored to client requirements.
  • Manages the expense & revenue budget process for the Firm as well as supporting management reporting.
  • Special projects and ad hoc reports for senior management as needed.
