Finance and Accounting Intern
About The Position
Want to see how money actually moves in a city—and build real-world skills you can put on your résumé? The City of Falls Church Finance Department is looking for a motivated student intern who’s curious about accounting, budgeting, and how local government works behind the scenes. As a Finance & Accounting Intern, you’ll get hands-on experience supporting the City’s day-to-day financial operations while learning how public-sector accounting really works. You won’t just be observing—you’ll be contributing to meaningful projects that support the community. About the City of Falls Church Falls Church is an independent city just six miles from Washington, D.C. With a population of about 16,000 and a strong “urban village” feel, we’re known for excellent customer service, a nationally ranked school system, environmental leadership, and an active, engaged community.
Requirements
- Is detail-oriented, organized, and dependable
- Can handle confidential information professionally
- Is comfortable working with numbers, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office
- Can juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Basic knowledge of finance or accounting is helpful, but a willingness to learn is most important
- Students currently pursuing a degree in: Accounting Finance Business Administration Public Administration Or a related field
- Fluency in English is required
Responsibilities
- Analyzing financial data to support budgeting and forecasting
- Helping prepare financial reports, dashboards, and presentations
- Assisting with expense tracking, reconciliations, and invoice processing
- Organizing and maintaining financial records
- Collaborating with other departments on special finance projects
- Converting the City’s annual budget book to an ADA-compliant format
- Supporting administrative and analytical tasks as needed
