Resurrection has an opening for a Finance & Accounting Lead Director in our Business Operations division! The position is full-time, exempt and is located at the Leawood campus at 13720 Roe Ave. Please see below for a full job description. Job Summary The Finance & Accounting Lead Director provides financial leadership and operational oversight for a large, multi-faceted church organization with 9 physical locations, $180 million in assets, and $50 million in annual income and a separate foundation entity with $14 million in assets. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role is responsible for the integrity of accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance. As a member of the Business Operations Team, they partner with ministry and operations staff to ensure high quality accounting support, financial analysis, and faithful stewardship of resources in alignment with the church’s mission and values.

Requirements

  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or applicable degree.
  • Minimum years of management/leadership experience: 3
  • Proven Results in: Ability to analyze financial performance, oversee audit and tax functions, managing and leading teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Three years of combined Public Accounting and Private Industry accounting experience preferred.
  • CPA certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the general accounting functions for the Church and the Foundation, which include cash management/reconciliation, financial reporting, balance sheet management, and fund balance management.
  • Maintain accounting system and optimize financial processes for scalability and efficiency.
  • Lead ministry staff in the preparation and submission of the annual budget, including quarterly meetings with each ministry to monitor budget-to-actual performance.
  • Independently conduct financial analysis of operating results, trends, and key performance indicators, applying sound judgment to identify drivers, risks, and insights that inform ministry performance and strategy.
  • Manage each fund balance, sources, and proper uses of each fund.
  • Evaluate, recalibrate, and implement cash management principles
  • Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Coordinate work relating to the external audit; responsible for the implementation of accepted recommendations resulting from the audit findings.
  • Supervise the completion of Federal and State tax reporting requirements (including property, sales and use, and other taxes) and monthly account reconciliations and other documents to ensure compliance.
  • Prepare denominational financial reports annually for each location and their respective annual conference.
  • Ensure that all contribution statements/acknowledgements comply with current Federal reporting requirements.
  • Prepare monthly bank compliance reports, according to the provisions of the bank loan agreement.
  • Provide strategic planning and visioning for the department; ensure resources are aligned with the strategic priorities of Resurrection’s governance and executive management.
  • Develop contingency plans, standards, systems, policies, and procedures to ensure consistent, high-quality church operations and church assets are protected.
  • Attend Foundation board, Foundation Investment Committee, Church Finance Committee, and Church Investment Subcommittee and other governance meetings and collaborate with governance committees.
  • Manage and lead projects simultaneously; delegate work to others and provide timely follow-up.
  • Lead, mentor, and provide direction to staff members. This includes ministry assessment and performance evaluation, goal setting, mentoring, spiritual encouragement, and support.
  • Ensure department is staffed with qualified personnel capable of meeting objectives and responsibilities.
  • Recruit, train, and equip volunteers.
  • Resolve conflicts and complex challenges.
  • Develop and manage department’s operating budget to achieve expected financial performance.
  • Attend church-wide, division, and department meetings.
  • Foster networking connections with other churches and organizations to gain and share insights, including preparing and teaching workshops at Leadership Institute.
  • Follow Jesus and engage in the “five essential practices” of the Christian life: worship, study, serve, give, and share.
  • Support the church’s purpose of “building a Christian community where non-religious and nominally religious people become deeply committed Christians.”
  • Exemplify the church’s values and support its theological direction as a United Methodist Church.
  • Other duties as assigned.
