About The Position

The position is within the Corporate Taxation Department of the Treasury Division at Erie Insurance, located in the Corporate Office in Erie, PA. The role involves performing basic accounting functions under close supervision, including organizing, analyzing, tracking, and reporting financial activities according to statutory accounting principles (SAP) and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Candidates with knowledge of state sales and use tax are preferred, and the hiring manager will consider candidates for the Finance Accountant II (F10) level based on their experience and qualifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP required, SAP preferred.
  • Working knowledge of spreadsheet, reporting, query, and/or database software preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of state sales and use tax preferred.
  • Four years of related experience may substitute for the degree for incumbents focused on allocations and balancing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Verifies and balances all source data used in the preparation of journal entries, financial statements, reports, schedules, and other documents in terms of accuracy, completeness, and compliance with requirements.
  • Prepares monthly account and system reconciliations.
  • Prepares various journal entries, statistical reports, surveys, supporting schedules, information returns, management reports, and financial statements for internal use and external filings in accordance with applicable accounting principles or regulations within the required deadlines.
  • Develops a working knowledge of various regulatory guidance (SAP/GAAP/SEC/SVO/IRS).
  • Develops analytical and research skills.
  • Assists with completion of internal control documentation and testing in accordance with SOX/MAR.
  • Develops working knowledge of systems and applications and process flows participating in upgrades as appropriate.
  • Assists in the preparation of workpapers for review by internal and external auditors.
  • Completes special projects as required.
  • Performs other duties as required.
