About The Position

Duplitech is seeking an experienced Film Restoration Artist with advanced expertise in FilmWorkz Phoenix to join our in-house Torrance restoration team. This role focuses on the high-end restoration of studio catalog titles, working from newly scanned film elements and archival sources. The ideal candidate possesses both technical mastery and a refined visual sensibility, with a deep respect for preserving original cinematography and artistic intent. The Restoration Artist plays a critical role in preparing iconic films for modern audiences — ensuring they meet today’s technical standards while honoring their historical integrity.

Requirements

  • Proven professional experience restoring feature film or episodic catalog titles
  • Advanced proficiency in Phoenix Film Restoration Software (required)
  • Strong understanding of photochemical film characteristics, grain structure, density, and common age-related degradation artifacts
  • Experience working within studio-driven restoration workflows and delivery requirements
  • Exceptional visual acuity with the ability to identify subtle image defects
  • Strong decision-making skills to balance automation with manual intervention
  • Ability to manage multiple titles while maintaining high-quality standards and meeting production deadlines
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently in a structured post-production environment

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced digital restoration using Filmworkz Phoenix, leveraging both automated processes and detailed frame-by-frame manual repair
  • Identify and correct film defects including dirt, dust, scratches, flicker, gate weave, instability, density fluctuation, mold damage, warping, and digital noise
  • Execute precise grain management and stabilization while preserving authentic film texture and photographic integrity
  • Repair torn or damaged frames, reconstruct missing imagery, and address complex physical degradation issues from archival film elements
  • Ensure restoration consistency across reels and sequences to maintain visual continuity throughout the feature
  • Work from high-resolution scans including ProRes, DPX and TIF image sequences
  • Collaborate closely with colorists to ensure restoration work integrates seamlessly into grading workflows
  • Coordinate with conform, editorial, and data management teams to maintain accurate timelines and version control
  • Follow studio-approved restoration methodologies and adhere to strict quality control standards
  • Maintain organized project documentation and asset management protocols
