RESPONSIBILITIES Sharpen, maintain, and repair saws, knives, and cutting tools Perform precision adjustments using measurement devices such as dial indicators, calipers, micrometers, angle finders (manual & electronic), tape measure, and scale Read and measure accurately to 001" tolerance Assist with CNC/Tooling setup, machining, and saw equipment maintenance Monitor tooling performance and make adjustments to optimize cutting efficiency and product quality Utilize HMI systems for recipe adjustments, machine interface navigation, and troubleshooting Support basic PLC interface understanding (beginner-level knowledge acceptable) Perform motor, shaft, and sheave alignment, laser alignment experience a plus Conduct lubrication tasks including greasing, oiling, and hydraulic system checks Perform minor welding or soldering when required (training provided if needed) Document work completed, measurements recorded, and tooling changes accurately Maintain proper housekeeping of work areas, filing room, and tool storage Collaborate with production, millwrights, maintenance, and supervisory teams Uphold safety standards and follow established operational procedures Work in low-light environments requiring strong visual focus and detail orientation Required Skills/Qualifications: Power tool & hand tool experience Strong mechanical aptitude Proficiency using calipers, dial indicators, micrometers, and precision measuring instruments Ability to interpret scale and fractional measurements to ±0.001" Solid math ability including fractional calculations and conversions Computer/literacy skills – Excel, Word, Outlook, password management Ability to work at heights and in physically demanding conditions (standing, kneeling, squatting, climbing, etc.) Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment with time-based demands Willingness to learn from multiple trainers and absorb technical instruction quickly Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills Preferred Skills: CNC setup or tooling tech experience Maintenance technician or millwright background HMI/PLC experience (recipe manipulation, interface navigation) Welding or soldering ability Laser alignment experience Motor/sheave alignment knowledge Hydraulic systems familiarity Sawmill industry experience PHYSICAL DEMANDS Ability to sit and/or stand for shift, reach with hands and arms, stoop, squat, bend at the waist, kneel, walk varying distance, and climb stairs. Vision-near and far correctable; depth perception Hearing-preferred for awareness of surrounding machinery, mobile equipment and emergencies. Frequent climbing of stairs and standing on concrete or grated flooring Physically intensive tasks including lifting, kneeling, and working in varied positions WORK ENVIRONMENT Must be able to tolerate all weather elements, loud conditions, airborne particles (sawdust). Exposure to elevated areas, low-light spaces, and active machinery Production-focused environment with maintenance responsibilities integral to uptime and recovery DISCLAIMER This position is probationary, with required task functions and performance to be evaluated monthly and reviewed with the employee. At this time, goals and expectations will be reviewed with all acceptable standards noted along with any identified areas of further improvement. After 6 months, this position will be considered permanent, assuming all goals and expectations are being met.
