About The Position

The position involves providing both face-to-face and distance learning education and supervision for candidates teaching or completing fieldwork experiences in various counties. Teaching assignments may occur at the Hayward campus, the Concord Center, and/or online, with the expectation that all duties are performed within the state of California. The role includes supervising candidates, reviewing their video submissions, and providing constructive feedback, as well as attending training and meetings related to fieldwork supervision.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid, unexpired California Clear Credential - Special Education (Education Specialist Instruction) authorized to work with students with Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Severe Disabilities or equivalent with additional authorizations: CLAD/English Learner and Autism Spectrum Disorders.
  • Minimum of 3 years K-12 Special Education teaching experience.
  • Successful experience mentoring/coaching/collaborating with teachers in their first 5 years of teaching.
  • Knowledge of the field of special education legislation, mandates and practices.
  • Knowledge of research-based practices for instruction, assessment and supporting positive behavior.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Use of technology (e.g., GoReact, Zoom, Google, Blackboard, email).

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Experience working with adult learners.

Responsibilities

  • Provide face-to-face or remote supervision for candidates teaching or completing fieldwork experiences in Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara, and San Mateo counties.
  • Travel to teaching/fieldwork sites in Alameda, Contra Costa Counties, San Mateo and/or when it is safe to do so.
  • Contact with the candidate, cooperating teacher and the site administrator to inform them of your role as the onsite/remote supervisor for the credential candidate.
  • Review the Using GoReact video and provide feedback to the candidate through the GoReact platform, with candidates uploading a minimum of 6 filmed assignments over the semester.
  • Conduct filmed observations that may include direct instruction, co-teaching, assessing students, participation in IEP meetings, and managing support personnel.
  • Complete observation of the video and online conference, providing immediate and constructive suggestions to the candidate.
  • Conduct additional contacts such as conferences related to co-teaching, preparing an IEP, demonstrating instruction, and modeling research-based instructional practices.
  • Conference with the school site administrator at the end of each semester to present the candidate's progress towards meeting the Teacher Performance Expectations.
  • Be available to the candidate for support and assistance between uploaded site visits.
  • Provide information regarding candidates to the program coordinator as requested.
  • Attend CSU East Bay fieldwork supervisor trainings and meetings.

Benefits

  • Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience, with ranges for Lecturer-Academic Year classification from $5,507 to $15,211 depending on the range and qualifications.
  • Anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience.
