About The Position

The Field Welder is responsible for hand-welding, flame-cutting, and metal fabrication work in both shop and field environments. This position joins, repairs, and modifies pipe and structural components used in oil and gas operations. The Field Welder ensures all welds meet required specifications and safety standards while maintaining equipment, documentation, and compliance with company and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of welding techniques, processes, and metal properties.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Skill in MIG and Stick welding processes.
  • Ability to identify weld defects and adjust techniques to ensure quality results.
  • Understanding of welding safety standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to workmanship quality.
  • Physical ability to lift, carry, and position heavy materials frequently.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to MIG and Stick weld.
  • Ability to pass and maintain API 1104 (pipeline) and ASME Section IX (pressure vessel) welding certifications.
  • 3–8 years of welding experience preferred.
  • Must meet Driver Acceptability Profile requirements, including DOT physical (driving position).
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Plan welding work from drawings, specifications, and knowledge of base metals and fluxes.
  • Select, set up, and operate welding equipment to complete welds according to required standards.
  • Inspect and examine welds during and after completion to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Adjust welding speed, voltage, amperage, and wire or rod feed to correct weld quality issues.
  • Operate arc, plasma, and oxy-gas cutting equipment to cut and trim metal to specified dimensions.
  • Dismantle and repair large equipment such as separators, tanks, ladders, and structural components.
  • Operate and maintain cutting machines, torches, beveling machines, and related equipment.
  • Perform welding work in the shop and in outdoor field conditions, including elevated or confined spaces.
  • Complete and maintain Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and obtain required permits for hot work or confined space entry.
  • Lift heavy materials and work in awkward positions, including overhead welding.
  • Maintain welding truck, welding machines, torches, tools, and related inventory.
  • Perform and document daily vehicle and crane inspections (if applicable).
  • Log all field welding work in the labor reporting system.
  • Maintain and properly use company-issued communication devices.
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE at all times.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Welding Shop Supervisor or management.
