The Field Underwriter position at Texas Farm Bureau Casualty Insurance Company is responsible for conducting field underwriting services in accordance with TFB and departmental goals, objectives, and guidelines, which will enhance profitable underwriting results. The role involves examining documents to assess risk, making underwriting decisions, and ensuring compliance with various regulations and guidelines.

  • Examine documents to determine degree of risk from factors such as applicant financial standing and property condition.
  • Make underwriting decisions in compliance with departmental procedures and Texas Department of Insurance regulations.
  • Evaluate risk selection and rate promulgation to optimize profitability.
  • Operate under TFBIC's Safety Services Procedures and Loss Control regulations.
  • Conduct on-site surveys and safety consultations as requested.
  • Maintain documentation of safety services and loss control information provided to policyholders.
  • Complete the FAA Part 107 sUAS Certification process and maintain active certification.
  • Communicate underwriting decisions to agents, applicants, and insureds.
  • Evaluate potential losses due to catastrophe or excessive insurance.
  • Adjust policy values for substandard risks and apply necessary endorsements.
  • Review company records for insurance amounts on related risks.
  • Authorize reinsurance for high-risk policies.
  • Assist in training Underwriter Trainees.
  • Participate in self-improvement courses administered by TFB.
  • Report special problems to the Commercial Lines Underwriting Manager.
  • Recommend changes in TFB guidelines and procedures.
  • Participate in special projects or research activities as assigned.
  • Communicate with other departments regarding underwriting transactions.
  • Comply with Certified Fleet Operator requirements.
  • Four-year degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience as an Underwriter or comparable insurance experience preferred.
  • Basic understanding of commercial and residential construction practices preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic computer applications, especially Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong interpersonal verbal skills, both face-to-face and over the phone.
  • Ability to assess risk acceptability and communicate decisions clearly.
  • Ability to plan, organize, manage time, and complete detailed work independently or in a team.
  • Valid Texas driver's license and a clean driving record.
