About The Position

KDM Engineering is seeking candidates for a Field Technician. This role is responsible for traveling to onsite locations to collect, document, and verify field data, perform construction layout activities, and ensure all safety and quality standards are met throughout field operations.

Requirements

  • 2 years of Utility field survey experience
  • knowledge of the use of total station survey equipment
  • Knowledge and utilization of GPS survey equipment
  • Configuration and interaction of utility infrastructure and public rights-of-way.
  • Communicate effectively and be able to update on progress of a project needed.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Motivation and self-direction in performing to critical deadlines
  • Must be able to walk, sit, stand, and drive for extended periods.
  • Ability to carry equipment weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to work outdoors and may be exposed to varying weather conditions including rain, snow, extreme heat, and cold
  • Must be willing to comply with all pre-employment screening, including but not limited to, drug testing, reference verification, education and employment verification, and background screening
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Possess a valid Driver’s License

Responsibilities

  • Travel to onsite locations following OSHA guidelines
  • Work closely with a field partner; travel together, coordinate tasks, and operate as an effective two-person team.
  • Create, manage, and communicate status reports with contractors and engineers
  • Serves as a primary point of contact between the engineers and field crew
  • Utilize total station survey equipment
  • Accurately and neatly gather field data using paper drawings, forms, electronic data collection devices, digital cameras, or other formats and/or devices specified by the project manager and/or client.
  • Correctly identify items to be documented in the field with minimal supervisory input.
  • Quickly learn and apply technology tools such as hand-held data loggers, laser range finders, angle finders, digital cameras, and GPS receivers.
  • Accurately record measurements and dimensions of requested items; be able to recognize levels of detail required to create a complete and accurate accounting of the field situation per the project specifications.
  • Completely render as-built conditions to act as bases for new design work.
  • Accurately records data and measurements using correct standards such that the resulting product is clear and easily understood by office-based project personnel.
  • Correctly identifies equipment and apparatus in the field with low error rate and minimal supervisory assistance.
  • Meets production targets to keep on schedule and within budgeted labor hours.
