The Field Technician would perform field review of poles and other electric facilities, including a review of the jobs with the design team working on electric utility aerial and underground distribution projects. Interaction with property owners may be necessary to explain project intentions. Position will be remote based in the Richmond, Virginia area and field work is required. Must be located within 2 hours or less from the Richmond, Virgina area.

Requirements

  • Associates degree preferred or 2 years’ experience with power distribution systems and/or telecommunications.
  • Valid driver’s license required with a clean driving record for the past 5 years.

Nice To Haves

  • Auto CAD experience.
  • Familiarity with IKE Device, ikeGPS and/or Hot Stick experience.
  • High-level understanding of utility, telecommunications, and/or power design engineering preferred.
  • Familiarity with electrical standards including National Electric Code (NEC) and National Electric Safety Code (NESC) preferred.
  • Knowledge of Katapult or like equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field review of electric facilities capturing the required information
  • Pole Identification Markings (height / class, birthmark)
  • Centerline measurements, offsets, Mile Markers (for future permitting use)
  • Attachment heights
  • Down guys and span guys
  • Sketch of site with measurements to nearby obstructions
  • Notation of existing equipment
  • Obtain GPS location
  • Photographs
  • Properly file data in the system and provide daily status reports.
  • Create folders and download photos
  • Scan notes and measurements, then save into folders
  • Conduct safety briefing discussions identifying critical work steps, the potential hazards related to those work steps, and possible control barriers
