About The Position

Fervo is working to build the most cost-effective, repeatable geothermal power plants in the world. Delivering on this mission requires reliable, high-quality data from the field—across drilling, stimulation, production, and long-term monitoring operations. Solar-powered telemetry, edge data acquisition, communications, and seismic monitoring systems are foundational to how Fervo understands the subsurface and operates safely and efficiently at scale. Joining Fervo as a Field Technician – Remote Telemetry & Edge Systems means supporting the hands-on deployment, operation, and maintenance of the field systems that power real-time insight across Fervo’s geothermal projects. This role is designed for an early-career technician who wants deep exposure to field instrumentation, communications, and edge systems while working alongside experienced engineers, geoscientists, and operations teams. You will contribute practical problem-solving, attention to detail, and field execution while building technical breadth through on-the-job training and mentorship. The Field Technician – Remote Telemetry & Edge Systems will support the design, deployment, integration, and maintenance of Fervo’s solar-powered remote telemetry, edge data acquisition, communications, and seismic sensing systems. This role sits within Fervo’s Data Acquisition and Advanced Analytics team, which builds and operates the field systems that collect, transmit, and manage critical subsurface and operational data across Fervo’s geothermal portfolio. This is a hands-on, field-focused role that works closely with geoscience, engineering, operations, and external vendors to ensure reliable data collection during drilling, stimulation, production, and monitoring activities. While the scope spans multiple technical areas, candidates are not expected to be experts in all of them on day one. Fervo provides onboarding, mentorship, and hands-on training to build proficiency across systems and workflows.

Requirements

1–3 years of experience in telecom, networking, instrumentation, controls, electronics, geophysical field operations, or related roles.
Hands-on experience with at least one of the following: fiber optics, LTE/radio communications, industrial wiring, or IT/edge compute systems.
Familiarity with industrial and data communication protocols such as Modbus, MQTT, or related field or messaging protocols.
Comfortable performing basic soldering and working with DC power systems.
Familiarity with Ethernet/IP networking fundamentals and safe field work practices.
Ability to work independently in remote, outdoor environments and travel to field sites as required.

Nice To Haves

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field
Experience with industrial control systems, PLCs, or serial communications.
Experience with solar-powered or battery-based DC power systems.
Fiber optic experience beyond basic installation (e.g., OTDR use or advanced troubleshooting).
Familiarity with Linux, embedded or edge computing systems, or basic Python scripting.
Field experience in energy, utilities, construction, oil & gas, or renewable energy environments.

Responsibilities

Support the design, assembly, and deployment of solar-powered remote telemetry, edge data acquisition, and seismic monitoring systems.
Install, commission, maintain, and troubleshoot field-deployed systems including controllers/PLCs, embedded hardware, sensor interfaces, seismic sensors, power systems, and rugged enclosures.
Oversee and support deployment of seismic sensors, including nodal arrays and permanent seismic stations, ensuring proper installation, power, timing, and data integrity.
Integrate telemetry and DAQ systems with third-party equipment such as wireline trucks, pumping systems, and vendor instrumentation packages.
Install, configure, and troubleshoot communications systems including LTE/cellular, radio, fiber optic, and Ethernet networks.
Perform fiber optic termination and splicing (fusion preferred), cabling, testing, and validation of network links.
Deploy and support edge compute systems, local storage, and data handling workflows, including drive swaps and data integrity checks.
Troubleshoot power, signal integrity, grounding, networking, environmental, and system reliability issues in the field.
Perform basic electronics assembly and soldering for connectors, wiring repairs, and field modifications.
Document as-built configurations, wiring diagrams, network settings, seismic layouts, and field changes.
Provide clear field reports, observations, and recommendations to support ongoing operations and system improvements.
