In this hands‑on field role, you’ll support the maintenance and operation of our electric system by performing meter work, service connections, and customer support activities critical to keeping the lights on. Job Summary Performs routine service work and related duties on the company's electric systems.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent Required
  • Successful completion of Alliant Energy’s Field Technician training program and passing of the Field Technician examination
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • This position is also subject to the residency requirements and must reside a within twenty (25) minute reporting time
  • Proven mechanical aptitude and skills to perform electric service type of work.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job and neat appearance.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Install, remove, read and replace single-phase electric meters.
  • Connect/disconnect electric meters.
  • Perform periodic change-out of single-phase electric meters.
  • Check electric installations for compliance with WP&L service rules and applicable codes.
  • Investigate and correct (when possible) customers' electric service problems and/or advice customer of corrections needed.
  • Assist in electric emergencies as requested.
  • Perform building maintenance as required.
  • Install and/or remove controls (time switches, DLC devices, etc.).
  • Set and remove recording instruments.
  • Assist the lead field technician or others as required.
  • Keep accurate records and generate reports as required.
  • Perform all work according to established procedures, operating practices and safety rules.
  • Locate underground utilities (as needed).
  • Perform other duties which are related, similar or incidental to this position.
