About The Position

Field Tech- Power Systems Technicians or NETA Technicians are expected to perform service, test and maintain various types of power transmission and distribution equipment.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED and minimum 1 year of experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of various industry standards such as: NETA, NEC, OSHA and NFPA.
  • Prefer experience with MCC's, Breakers, relay testing, oil testing, infrared scanning, performing start-up on switchgear up through 500kV class, or military training.
  • Ability to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.
  • Good theoretical understanding of electricity and problem-solving aptitude.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Dependable and responsible with good judgment and organizational skills.
  • Good customer service, time management and follow-up skills.
  • Strong computer skills with working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driver's license required for positions utilizing a company vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • High School diploma/GED or equivalent experience and 5 years of experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and various industry standards, such as NETA, OSHA, IEEE and NFPA.
  • Strong background and experience in high voltage equipment through the 230 kV class.
  • Ability to complete on-site job reports.
  • Valid driver's license with a Class A CDL is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform trouble shooting, electrical / fluid testing, repairs and fluid services of transformers, rectifiers, regulators and high voltage components.
  • Communicate with clients, peers and management for effective problem resolution and transfer of pertinent information.
  • Maintain strong client relationships, prepare project estimates, expand project work scopes and assist in negotiating extra charges.
  • Inspect customer sites, report problems to Sales and Project Management.
  • Conduct all work and decisions in compliance with regulatory laws.
  • Responsible for transformer and switchgear painting and paint prep.
  • Select, re-condition, and weld various components/devices as directed.
  • Ensure quality control of the transformer, including completing final test reports and ensuring all warning signs and nameplates are on the equipment.
  • Test transformers as assigned as per company and customer expectations.
  • Complete test reports in company software in a timely manner.
  • Complete service and repair work at Customer location(s) as directed.
  • Obtain forklift license or ability to obtain license.
  • Work weekly and/or weekend overtime as needed.
  • Comply with all safety requirements and maintain a clean work area.
  • Work with team members to complete work assignments effectively.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
