About The Position

Field Technicians are expected to perform service, test and maintain various types of power transmission and distribution equipment. The primary responsibility will be to perform trouble shooting, electrical / fluid testing, repairs and fluid services of transformers, rectifiers, regulators and high voltage components. This role requires effective communication with clients, peers, and management for problem resolution and information transfer. Technicians will maintain strong client relationships, prepare project estimates, expand project work scopes, and assist in negotiating extra charges. They will inspect customer sites, report problems, and ensure compliance with regulatory laws. Responsibilities also include transformer and switchgear painting, quality control of transformers, completing test reports, and performing service and repair work at customer locations. Safety compliance and maintaining a clean work area are essential.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED and minimum 1 year of experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as NETA, NEC, OSHA and NFPA.
  • Experience with MCC's, Breakers, relay testing, oil testing, infrared scanning, and performing start-up on switchgear up through 500kV class.
  • Good theoretical understanding of electricity and problem-solving aptitude.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Dependable and responsible with good judgment and organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office.
  • Valid driver's license required for positions utilizing a company vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 years of experience in a related field for Senior Field Tech positions.
  • Strong background in high voltage equipment through the 230 kV class.
  • Class A CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform trouble shooting, electrical / fluid testing, repairs and fluid services of transformers, rectifiers, regulators and high voltage components.
  • Communicate with clients, peers and management for effective problem resolution and transfer of pertinent information.
  • Maintain strong client relationships, prepare project estimates, expand project work scopes and assist in negotiating extra charges.
  • Inspect customer sites, report problems to Sales and Project Management.
  • Conduct all work in compliance with regulatory laws.
  • Perform transformer and switchgear painting and paint prep.
  • Select, re-condition, and weld various components/devices as directed.
  • Ensure quality control of transformers, including completing final test reports and ensuring all necessary labels and signs are present.
  • Complete test reports in company software in a timely manner.
  • Perform service and repair work at customer locations as directed.
  • Obtain and maintain a forklift license.
  • Work overtime as needed, including weekends and holidays.
  • Comply with all safety requirements and maintain a clean work area.
  • Collaborate with team members to complete work assignments.
