About The Position

SUMMARY: Assists the Crew Leader II in coordinating the work involved in the operations of a Field Services team. Operates backhoe and other equipment relevant to the Team to which assigned. Performs heavy manual labor and operates any required mechanical equipment used by Field Services Teams. Understands the total operations of the Team sufficiently to perform duties required to run the Team in the absence of the Construction Foreman. Responsible for upkeep and preventative maintenance of all mechanical equipment used by Team. Performs other related work as required. Attend all seminars and training given by Columbus Water Works. Employee will be required to perform on-call duties on a rotating schedule ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following:  Prepare for daily assignments by loading and unloading assigned truck with all necessary materials, supplies, and equipment as per supervisor(s) instructions.  Clean and wash vehicles and equipment as needed. Unloads, sets up at job sites and operates with little or no direct supervision specific equipment used in Team operations such as Rodding Machines, Tapping Machines, Boring Machines Jack hammer, tamp Pipe saw, dump truck and all other essential tools and equipment.  Coordinates with Construction Foreman to complete jobs as required. Exhibits ability to perform heavy manual labor under directions of supervisor(s) Performs duties of the Construction Foreman as needed. Exhibits ability to understand and implement traffic safety procedures. From time to time, this employee may be called upon to perform other duties as deemed necessary by his supervisor. Confined Spaces Entry, Entry of manholes and other tight spaces.  QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Understanding of the maintenance and construction of a Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection System. Must be able to operate all equipment associated with the maintenance and construction of a Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection System. Must be able to obtain Fort Benning Access required.  EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE A minimum of 3 years construction experience required for position. High school graduate or GED is the minimum requirement for position. Possession of a valid Drivers License and a good driving record is required. Ability to obtain a Commercial Drivers Permit within six months of employment and Commercial Drivers License (CDL) within one year of employment required. Ability to receive certification in Confined Space Entry and Trench Excavation within one year of employment required. Ability to receive CPR and First Aid Standard within one year of employment required. Erosion Control certification preferred. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, drawings and operating instructions.  MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to draw and read all graphs types. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense to carryout instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
