Job Description Support field and office surveying activities under the direction of the Crew Chief and/or RPLS. Assist with boundary, topographic, ALTA, right-of-way, and construction survey projects for public and private clients. Help operate and care for survey equipment, instruments, and related technology used for data collection. Contribute to accurate measurement, staking, and documentation to support mapping and construction layout. Participate in data acquisition, coding, and transfer workflows to support production and deliverables. Perform routine survey support tasks that build familiarity with terminology, procedures, and field methods. Provide manual labor support required for field operations and access along lines of survey. Support office technical tasks including research, reductions, drafting preparation, and computations. Communicate issues, changes, and observations to the crew to support quality and schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, level, and operate survey equipment and instruments as directed by the Crew Chief.
  • Acquire, code, verify, and transmit field data using tablets/data collectors and Wi‑Fi-enabled workflows.
  • Hold the level rod/prism at designated points to assist in determining elevations and positions; communicate rod height changes.
  • Read steel and/or cloth tape accurately in feet and decimals; measure and record distances as directed.
  • Mark measuring points and set hubs/stakes/flags/tacks/paint for mapmaking, boundary, construction, and other surveys.
  • Cut and clear brush/trees, assist with access along the line of survey, and perform other jobsite preparation tasks.
  • Load, unload, stock, and prepare trucks and equipment for daily jobs; clean and store tools properly.
  • Organize research for the field; reduce field observations and prepare data for drafting.
  • Assist the RPLS with survey reports, boundary analysis, and COGO calculations as assigned.
  • Follow safety and traffic-control requirements; advise the Crew Chief of problems/issues and perform other duties as assigned.

  • Performs routine work which does not require previous experience
  • Other duties as assigned
