About The Position

Pennoni is hiring! In particular, we are looking for a Field Survey Technician to contribute to our field surveying operations on a full-time, direct basis in the Newark, DE area. This person will work on a variety of initiatives with an emphasis on surveying for Transportation, Industrial, and Land Development projects; if you are a Team Player and Problem Solver that can adapt well to new situations while working with a high level of accuracy, then we encourage you to apply!

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) with at least one year of professional experience working in Field / Land Surveying and/or Construction; OR
  • Associate's degree in Surveying Technology or an equivalent discipline (RECENT & UPCOMING GRADUATES ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY!)
  • Possess a Valid Driver’s License as well as a clean driving record
  • Pass a Background Check and Drug Test without issue

Nice To Haves

  • Formal training in Land Surveying or a related field of study (especially Civil Engineering Technology)
  • Experience working in field-based roles with physically-demanding tasks
  • Experience with Land Surveying; exposure to modern Survey methods, best practices, and technologies is preferred
  • Proficiency with relevant technologies / tools (e.g.: Total Stations, HDLS, GIS, etc.)
  • Experience with RTS (Robotic Total Stations), GPS, Leica Geosystems HW & SW, and/or High-Definition Laser Scanning equipment is a plus
  • Proficiency on all standard Microsoft Office software applications, especially with MS-Excel; exposure to CAD is a plus
  • Proven ability to adapt to new situations
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision
  • Strong attention-to-detail skills with the proven ability to work with a high-level of accuracy
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)

Responsibilities

  • Adjust & operate surveying instrument (i.e.: prisms, total stations, GPS / electronic distance-measuring equipment, auto-levels, etc.)
  • Record survey measurements and descriptive data (using notes, drawings, sketches, and data collection files)
  • Utilize rods for bench loops and cross-section elevations
  • Position targets that Operators use for sighting in order to measure angles, distances, and elevations
  • Search, stake, and recover sectional & property corners as well as other survey monumentation
  • Perform manual labor such as cutting brush to clear lines, carrying materials (e.g.: stakes, rebar, and other items), and staking survey monumentation
  • Perform various surveying tasks: topographic surveys, boundary surveys, construction stakeouts, etc.
  • Work with a variety of clients / projects: industrial facilities, government facilities, etc.
  • Additional tasks may be assigned, as needed
