The incumbent will be accountable for assigning daily field work assignments, supervising and inspecting maintenance, repair and installation work performed by field technicians. The position involves supporting field work with field employees, coordinating and scheduling a variety of maintenance, installation and repair projects for the water and sewer systems in the Jersey City water system, and allocating and assigning work crews to specific jobs based on job requirements and staffing ability. The incumbent will also supervise and inspect maintenance, repair and installation work to be completed in the Jersey City water system, perform documented safety inspections of system maintenance crews and inspectors during daily field inspections, and respond to field complaints or problems received from customers by conducting physical site inspections. Additional responsibilities include investigating sites for planned projects, participating in developing and implementing the department’s operational scheduling and standard operating procedures, and providing backup to other supervisors as directed. The incumbent must be able to respond to emergency calls and work extended hours as needed, and must comply with health, safety, and environmental protection programs.
