The incumbent will be accountable for assigning daily field work assignments, supervising and inspecting maintenance, repair and installation work performed by field technicians. The position involves supporting field work with field employees, coordinating and scheduling a variety of maintenance, installation and repair projects for the water and sewer systems in the Jersey City water system, and allocating and assigning work crews to specific jobs based on job requirements and staffing ability. The incumbent will supervise and inspect maintenance, repair and installation work to be completed in the Jersey City water system, perform documented safety inspections of system maintenance crews and inspectors during daily field inspections, and respond to field complaints or problems received from customers by conducting physical site inspections. The role also includes investigating sites for planned projects to determine necessary safety precautions, special tools and equipment, and other special project requirements. The incumbent will participate in developing and implementing the department’s operational scheduling and standard operating procedures, provide backup to other supervisors as directed, assist in compliance with contract deliverables, and communicate appropriate information as needed. The position requires responding to emergency calls and working extended hours as needed, as well as being a member of the emergency callout rotation team. The incumbent must demonstrate a commitment to health, safety, and protection of the environment by complying with safety programs and demonstrating safe work practices.
