About The Position

As the Field Structural Project Engineer, you will work onsite in Anchorage, AK and will support the successful delivery of structural construction projects by providing onsite engineering, project administration, and field coordination. Your responsibilities include interpreting drawings and specifications, supporting daily operations, tracking production and costs, administering safety and quality control programs, coordinating subcontractors and vendors, and maintaining project documentation. You works closely with field leadership to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant execution of work in remote and fast-paced jobsite environments.

Requirements

  • Technical knowledge of heavy civil and structural field construction concepts, practices, methods, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of construction methods for structural concrete, steel, bridge, dock/marine, foundation, and building systems.
  • Knowledge of structural drawings, shop drawings, specifications, and contract documents with the ability to interpret and apply them in the field.
  • Knowledge of construction project scheduling, subcontract administration, submittals, quality control, and safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of construction surveying, layout, grade control, and quantity tracking practices.
  • Knowledge of cost control principles, production tracking, and basic project budgeting.
  • Knowledge of remote location construction projects and associated logistical challenges.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local regulations including OSHA, environmental compliance, and SWPPP requirements.
  • Ability to read and understand all types of construction plans, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Ability to perform field takeoffs, verify quantities, and maintain accurate daily production reports.
  • Ability to assist with RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation.
  • Ability to use standard business computers and applications, specifically estimating and project management software (i.e., HeavyBid, HeavyJob, Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project).
  • Ability to learn and utilize construction management and accounting systems (e.g., HeavyJob, Spectrum, or similar ERP/project tracking tools).
  • Ability to organize and maintain accurate project files, records, and a clean, safe work area.
  • Ability to assist with multiple projects or tasks simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Ability to work productively under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • Ability to adjust priorities and work schedules to meet changing project demands and goals.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to field crews, subcontractors, vendors, and project leadership.

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule, including extended hours, weekends, and holidays as project needs dictate.
  • Ability to work in a Native Corporation multi-business environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field required.
  • Travel and work in remote Alaska locations for extended rotations or up to 95% of the time.
  • Ability to obtain any required site-specific or client-required safety certifications (e.g., OSHA 10/30, MSHA, First Aid/CPR) upon hire.
  • Valid state driver’s license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company’s Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass a drug, driving and background screenings.

  • One (1) year of experience, in addition to formal education, in a construction, heavy civil, or structural project environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Code and enter daily payroll, labor, and equipment time into HeavyJob accurately and on schedule.
  • Prepare and submit daily reports, including production quantities, activities performed, and project photos for transmittal to the Project Manager.
  • Track quantities installed and completed work; collect and maintain supporting documentation daily.
  • Assist with layout coordination, interpretation of structural drawings, specifications, and shop drawings to support field construction activities.
  • Provide technical support to field crews by clarifying plans, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Ensure project compliance with the approved Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and maintain all required inspections, documentation, and reporting.
  • Review and document Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs); ensure proper field use and compliance with the project safety plan.
  • Modify plans as needed to address changing site conditions.
  • Participate in safety meetings and proactively identify and mitigate jobsite hazards.
  • Set up and maintain local hire employee packets and required support documentation; coordinate with corporate payroll to ensure accurate employee status and reporting.
  • Establish and maintain organized field office files, records, and project documentation systems.
  • Track fuel usage, maintain daily logs, and submit reports to the Equipment Manager.
  • Assist the Project Manager and Superintendent with schedule updates, look-ahead planning, and cost projections.
  • Support development and maintenance of project schedules, including progress tracking and production analysis.
  • Assist with cost control, change tracking, and budget monitoring to help ensure projects remain within financial targets.
  • Generate correspondence to owners, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders as required.
  • Recognize, document, and communicate changed work or differing site conditions; notify the Superintendent and PM promptly.
  • Prepare and track Requests for Information (RFIs), change orders, and potential claims documentation.
  • Review pay estimates and verify completed quantities for accuracy; report subcontractor progress to the management team to support proper payment processing.
  • Generate and maintain the submittal register; collect and review submittals for compliance with specifications and coordinate approvals.
  • Verify materials match approved submittals upon ordering and delivery.
  • Coordinate material procurement and delivery schedules to align with project sequencing and minimize delays.
  • Develop and maintain the Quality Control Plan; ensure required testing is completed at specified frequencies and properly documented; report deficiencies to the Superintendent.
  • Conduct field inspections to verify structural work conforms to drawings, tolerances, and quality standards.
  • Maintain Traffic Control Plans (TCPs); verify compliance with specifications and applicable standards; modify as necessary to ensure safe and efficient site operations.
  • Implement Brice’s substance abuse testing program in accordance with company policy.
  • Assist with the union field onboarding process with coordination of the main office and HR.
  • Assist the Grade Checker to ensure staking conforms to plans and specifications; record quality control checks and maintain field book documentation.
  • Receive parts and supplies on site and distribute to intended recipients; coordinate with the parts department as needed.
  • Interface with owners, inspectors, and third-party testing agencies during site visits and audits.
  • Support project closeout activities including as-builts, turnover documentation, and final records compilation.
  • Travel for work-related purposes up to 95% of the time.
