About The Position

At STERIS, we partner with healthcare teams to keep patients safe. As a Field Sterile Instrument Service & Inspection Technician, you’ll transform worn surgical tools into reliable, ready-for-surgery instruments—directly from a mobile repair truck serving hospitals. Your Mission Imagine stepping into a hospital’s loading bay where your mobile workshop is parked. You collect instrument sets, then return to your truck to restore them: polishing, shaping, sharpening, and tuning every hinge and serration. Ultrasonic function checks confirm performance, and metallurgy knowledge guides your work. You make multiple trips inside the hospital while the bulk of the work happens in your vehicle-based shop. Career Launchpad—No Prior Instrument Repair Needed We’ll teach you the craft. Candidates with practical skills from areas like hands-on repair, assembly, product testing, small engine repair, cell phone/electronics repair/testing/re-builds, carpentry, circuit board assembly/repair, industrial sewing, jewelry repair, maintenance, construction, welding, fabrication, and automotive repair transition seamlessly. Territory and Travel Field role operating from a mobile repair truck at hospitals Service region: Salt Lake City, UT; Jackson, WY; and Idaho Falls, ID Plan for about 3 nights away from home per month; travel costs covered in full Daily driving of a company vehicle

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least 2 years of work experience with a minimum 1 year relevant, or 1 year at STERIS; all experience must be verifiable
  • Technical/mechanical certifications, competitive equipment training, or related military experience may satisfy experience requirements
  • Age 21+ with ability to meet FMCSA and driver’s license requirements
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable record (CDL not required) and ability to maintain required vaccines
  • Strength in service delivery plus maintenance and repair capabilities
  • Onboarding If offered this position, STERIS will run a 7 year driving record check, as part of our onboarding process.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic-to-intermediate instrument inspection, repair, and refurbishment
  • Complete ultrasonic function assessments and address metallurgy considerations
  • Buff and polish; bend, shape, and sharpen
  • Repair hinge points and serrations; conduct brazing as required
  • Collaborate with hospital staff and manage frequent trips inside facilities
