We are looking for a Field Service Technician to support our Primex brand. This role will work out of our Largo, FL location but requires frequent travel. Our Primex brand is a leading provider of control solutions for the municipal and wastewater industries, offering pump control panels, full-featured web-hosted SCADA solutions, and highly complex system integration projects. The job: As our Field Service Technician, you will be primarily responsible for the testing, successful start-up, and commissioning of new control system projects, as well as the troubleshooting, service, and repair of installed systems. You will play a critical role in ensuring that projects transition smoothly from engineering to operational success in both factory and field environments. Every day, you will collaborate with Project Managers, Engineers, and Programmers to align on project scope, schedule, and technical requirements. You will review plans, specifications, and operational documents to ensure clarity prior to testing and deployment, while coordinating with Sales, contractors, and end users to resolve questions throughout the project lifecycle. You will conduct factory checkouts and testing of control systems, verifying electrical and mechanical integrity as well as software functionality. In the field, you will support and often lead start-up and commissioning activities, including installation verification, system debugging, software validation, instrumentation calibration, and integration with other devices or platforms. In addition to new installations, you will provide aftermarket service and support for installed control systems. This may include troubleshooting pump control systems, replacing or upgrading components, performing retrofits, recalibrating field instrumentation, and responding to urgent service calls to minimize downtime for municipal clients. When not in the field or performing factory testing, you will provide remote technical support to customers by phone and email. This includes troubleshooting system alarms, communication issues, pump control logic, and instrumentation concerns, guiding operators and maintenance personnel through corrective actions, and escalating issues internally when necessary.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with PLC-based control systems in industrial or municipal environments
  • Working knowledge of PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, MicroLogix), Siemens, or similar
  • Experience with HMI and SCADA systems (FactoryTalk View, Ignition, Wonderware, VTScada, or comparable platforms)
  • Ability to troubleshoot control panels, motor controls, VFDs, and pump control systems
  • Understanding of industrial networking and communications protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU, cellular or telemetry systems)
  • Experience calibrating and troubleshooting field instrumentation (level, flow, pressure, temperature)
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, P&IDs, control narratives, and I/O lists
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose issues in both hardware and software
  • Willingness and ability to travel to municipal job sites as required
  • Strong communication skills to support on-site commissioning and remote technical support
  • A 2-year degree in Electronic Technology, Electrical Construction, Automation or other related fields along with 3-5 years of experience is preferred.
