This Position reports to: Field Service Manager In this role, you will support field service activities related to installation, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of electrical distribution equipment. This role is ideal for candidates with a foundational electrical background (5+ years) who are ready to grow their technical skills and gain experience in power delivery systems. The work model for the role is: Hybrid; Honolulu, HI This role is contributing to the Electrification Service Division .

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering OR High School Diploma/GED with at least 5 years of electrical or field experience .
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills; ability to work effectively with supervision and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Familiarity with industrial customers or electrical environments in the region.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 75% as needed.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid passport and driver’s license
  • Employment is contingent on successful background check and drug screening.
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with testing or maintaining low‑voltage and medium‑voltage power distribution equipment (breakers, switchgear, relays, transformers).
  • Any hands‑on experience in repair or refurbishment of LV/MV breakers (Siemens, GE, ABB, Square D, etc.).
  • Basic exposure to commissioning or troubleshooting equipment such as synchronous machines, excitation systems, control systems, or PLCs is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Follow all ABB HSE (Health, Safety & Environment), ABB Way, and company safety policies at all times
  • Perform hands‑on tasks including startup, commissioning support, basic troubleshooting, and maintenance of power delivery equipment—such as transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, UPS systems, ATS systems, relays, PLCs, and power management equipment.
  • Support senior field engineers and project leads during outages, equipment testing, and on‑site service activities
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as writing basic service reports, documenting findings, tracking time and expenses, and preparing job status updates.
  • Learn to plan and organize field assignments with increasing independence as experience grows
  • Develop technical knowledge through on‑the‑job learning, training programs, and exposure to industry standards.
  • Participate in internal and external training programs to build skills related to field engineering and specialized product knowledge.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and use reporting systems as required.
  • Practice cost‑conscious decision‑making and proper care of company tools, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Support customer satisfaction efforts by maintaining professionalism and clear communication.
  • Work with customers and ABB teams to identify service needs and support proposal development under guidance from senior staff.
