The FSO (Field Service Organization) is responsible for supporting the implementation and maintenance of highly technical mission critical communications systems at customer locations. The Field Service Technician (FST) is responsible for a wide array of technical duties, focusing on the deployment, optimization, and repair of critical infrastructure. This includes public safety loggers, subscriber equipment, microwave systems, computers, servers, and network equipment. The FST operates within a 24/7/365 support model to maintain mission-critical systems for Public Safety Customers.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in one of the following: LMR, RF Systems, Radio Communications, Radio Frequency, Motorola equipment, Wired/Wireless Communication Systems, IT Systems, Telecommunications, Public Safety, Engineering, Networking Equipment, IP Networking, Solutions Architecture, ASTRO 25, P25, WAVE VoIP, or Military experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract(s)
  • Must reside within a commutable distance to the public safety customers in the coverage area (Southeast Florida), ideally within 50 miles.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Ability to be flexible for working overtime, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules as required.
  • Must possess a current, valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain background clearance as required by government customer(s) and pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a Communications System Technician, particularly with P25 Systems, LMR RF systems, wired/wireless communication systems, networking equipment, IT networks, and subscriber equipment.
  • Familiarity with the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques for current model digital and analog Motorola communications equipment and system architectures.
  • High proficiency in wired/wireless communications systems, including Local Area Networks (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN).
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and practices.
  • Proficiency with equipment used for optimizing and testing Motorola communications systems (e.g., Communications Systems Analyzers, Power Sensors, Watt Meters, TIMS sets, CPS, CSS, Antenna Systems Analyzers/FDRs).
  • Experience configuring and testing base stations, repeaters, routers, switches, and MPLS networks.
  • Skilled in configuring and testing Motorola two-way radio and subscriber products.
  • Experience with logging recording systems, RF interfaces, 911 applications, and networking equipment.
  • Proven ability to install, configure, and maintain computer networks (cabling, routers, switches, firewalls, bridges).
  • Ability to develop and deliver technical training; capable of providing guidance on integrating new tools and solutions.
  • Computer literate with proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Exceptional self-management and interpersonal skills for collaboration with customers, subcontractor partners, and internal Motorola Solutions teams.
  • Self-motivated, self-managed, and capable of performing duties independently without direct supervision.
  • Skilled in quickly resolving customer problems, even in stressful situations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, a high sense of urgency, strong work ethic, and results-oriented.
  • CompTIA Network+ and/or Security+.
  • FCC license and industry certifications such as ETA.
  • This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy" and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent fingerprint background check administered by Motorola Solutions Inc. customers.

Responsibilities

  • System Maintenance and Optimization: Maintain, optimize, test, document, and manage highly technical Motorola communications systems.
  • Ensure optimal system performance by proactively monitoring and addressing system alarms and malfunctions.
  • Manage system availability through routine maintenance, performance monitoring, and system-wide preventative maintenance (PM).
  • Perform PM routines, focusing on trend analysis and meticulous documentation of results.
  • Optimize and support complex communications systems and software, including advanced troubleshooting of software-driven electronics, provisioning communication infrastructure, and optimizing RF and Broadband systems.
  • Apply knowledge of RF systems (transmitters, receivers, antenna networks) and standard telephony, dedicated data circuits, and packet switching techniques.
  • Develop solutions for difficult technical challenges encountered during system maintenance, upgrades, or support issues.
  • Engage in continuous training on the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Installation and Field Operations: Perform removal and installation of Fixed Network Equipment (FNE) and mobile communications equipment, including associated cabling, in customer locations and vehicles, adhering to best practices and R56 Standards.
  • Conduct advanced troubleshooting and repair of existing equipment installations as needed.
  • Perform pre- and post-installation checklists to ensure the functionality of vehicle accessories, lights, and other components.
  • Document the physical condition of the vehicle before and after work completion.
  • Act individually as the Installer on large projects when required, capable of directing self and other assigned Installers.
  • Confirm site grounding continuity using a clamp-on ground resistance tester.
  • Identify and recommend optimal installation locations/methods for various vehicle types/models, documenting the customer's agreed-upon choices.
  • Perform site walks to confirm equipment installation requirements and, if necessary, create customer quotes for new and add-on projects.
  • Collaboration and Documentation: Collaborate closely with Public Safety Customers, System Managers, Engineers, Sales Teams, Project Managers, System Technologists, and Service Partners to complete assigned tasks successfully.
  • Team with Engineering, Project Management, Customer Service, and Sales personnel to effectively maintain, optimize, and support advanced communication systems that meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Provide weekly reports detailing activities and accomplishments.
  • Document customer information, work performed, hours, parts used, and specific instructions from the customer.
