About The Position
The Field Service Technician at Viking Engineering and Development plays a crucial role in ensuring the optimal performance of industry-leading wood fastening machines. This position involves traveling to various customer locations to service, troubleshoot, install, and maintain equipment. As a Field Service Technician, you will be responsible for running equipment installations, conducting scheduled maintenance, and providing maintenance assistance. Each new Viking machine is installed by our Service Technicians, who are tasked with setup, calibration, hands-on operator training, and troubleshooting advice. Your mechanical and electrical knowledge will be essential in delivering top-notch service to our customers while managing your daily tasks effectively. In this role, you will engage in troubleshooting and assembling all aspects of Viking's equipment, utilizing drawings, specifications, blueprints, and schematics. This includes working with electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical sub-assemblies, as well as PLC controls. You will assist in planning and documenting installation, service, repair, and assembly procedures, ensuring adherence to written work instructions and documented specifications. Testing equipment to ensure proper functionality, making minor modifications or repairs, and promptly communicating any changes to the appropriate departments in writing are key responsibilities. Additionally, you will dismantle equipment for parts replacement, relocate equipment as needed, and install Viking's standard equipment according to the schedule. Customer interaction is a significant part of this role, as you will address issues professionally and work towards creating ongoing relationships with customers. Providing telephone technical support and troubleshooting on standard parts and equipment offerings is also part of your duties. You will utilize photo and video technology when appropriate and train customer operators and maintenance personnel on the basic operations, safety, and maintenance of all Viking equipment. This position requires a high level of independent judgment and decision-making, along with the flexibility to take on other duties as assigned.
