About The Position

As a Field Service Technician at TDS Telecom, you will be responsible for on-site installations, troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance of telecommunications products and equipment. This role involves direct customer interaction, requiring you to provide exceptional customer service while proactively selling TDS services and products. You will work with various telecommunications services, including telephony, video, and high-speed internet, ensuring customer satisfaction and identifying their needs for effective communication solutions.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Ability to maintain DOT requirements for operating vehicles over 10,000 lbs.
  • A+ certification and computer networking experience are necessary.
  • Practical knowledge of telecommunication products and services is required.
  • Experience with computer applications including databases and MS Office Suite is essential.
  • Demonstrated customer service and sales skills are necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with fiber optic transmission and structured wiring is preferred.
  • Knowledge of RUS Standards and Grounding practices is a plus.
  • Ability to operate vehicles with manual transmissions is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with and perform on-site installations, troubleshooting, testing, splicing, repairing, and maintaining telephone and network equipment.
  • Identify location of defective cable using test equipment and repair various types of cables.
  • Locate cable and fiber in response to customer requests and construction needs.
  • Climb poles and operate construction equipment as required.
  • Maintain orderly logs of all locate requests and perform cable fault acceptance tests.
  • Provide troubleshooting support and respond to trouble dispatches.
  • Maintain work equipment and company vehicle, stocking supplies as needed.
  • Promote safety and accident prevention as part of daily functions and attend safety meetings.
  • Complete all related paperwork in a timely manner, including forms and timesheets.
  • Utilize MS Office Suite and other TDS applications for accurate facility assignment and verification.
