About The Position

As a Field Service Technician, you'll be the go-to expert for on-site diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of Caterpillar (CAT) Power Generation equipment and related systems. You'll work independently from a fully equipped Ohio CAT service truck, servicing and performing CAT diesel and gas generators (5KW to 3MW), switchgear and ATS systems, control panels and electrical distribution systems. You will perform load bank testing, commissioning, and preventive maintenance, use diagnostic tools (e.g., CAT ET (Electronic Technician), SIS (Service Information System), and other computer-based diagnostic tools/software) to troubleshoot issues, provide exceptional customer service and technical support, and ensure compliance with safety protocols and documentation standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Completion of a technical school program (minimum 2 years) focused on diesel or power generation systems.
  • At least 3 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in repairing diesel engines, generators, and industrial equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CAT, Cummins, Generac, Kohler, or Detroit Diesel generator systems.
  • Familiarity with switchgear brands like Russelectric, Lakeshore, or Asco.
  • Military or field-based experience in equipment diagnostics and repair is highly valued.
  • Comfortable working independently in outdoor environments.
  • Must own and safely use personal mechanic's tools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of CAT Power Generation equipment.
  • Service CAT diesel and gas generators (5KW to 3MW).
  • Work with switchgear and ATS systems.
  • Handle control panels and electrical distribution systems.
  • Conduct load bank testing, commissioning, and preventive maintenance.
  • Use diagnostic tools for troubleshooting.
  • Provide customer service and technical support.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and documentation standards.
