The Field Service Technician plays a crucial role within the Field Service Organization (FSO), which is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of highly technical, mission-critical digital mobile communication systems for government and public safety clients. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the deployment, optimization, and repair of infrastructure, public safety loggers, subscribers, microwave equipment, computers, servers, and network equipment. The FSO collaborates with customers, system managers, engineers, sales teams, project managers, system technologists, and service partners to achieve its mission. The department operates on a 24/7/365 on-call basis to provide uninterrupted support for the mission-critical systems used by public safety customers.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree, technical school certification, or military training in a relevant field preferred.
  • Ability to obtain government-required background clearance.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Fundamental understanding of basic electronics and electrical theory.
  • Proficiency in vehicle assembly, as well as vehicle electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Skilled in using basic electronic test equipment (DVMs, watt meters, communication systems analyzers, etc.).
  • Adept at using hand and power tools for mobile and fixed network equipment installation.
  • Computer literate with familiarity in Microsoft Word, Excel, and internet browsers.
  • Self-motivated and capable of quickly learning new system types and technologies.
  • Team-oriented, able to collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in product-specific tools and software for basic configuration and testing (pre- and post-installation).
  • Basic understanding of communication system functionality and customer-specific technologies.

Nice To Haves

  • Achieve CET Associate Certification within six months of hire.
  • Obtain appropriate technical certifications for the role (e.g., ETA Mobile Communications and/or Electronics Installers Certification or Emergency Vehicle Technician) within six months of hire.
  • Acquire R56 Installer Certification within the first year of employment.
  • Possess training and experience in configuring, testing, and optimizing current Motorola two-way radio subscriber equipment.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules as required.
  • Availability for 24/7 on-call duty, 365 days a year.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, optimize and manage sophisticated Motorola communications systems.
  • Proactively ensure optimal system performance and address any alarms or malfunctions.
  • Guarantee system availability through regular maintenance, performance monitoring, and preventative measures.
  • Stay current with the latest technologies and troubleshooting techniques for Motorola digital and analog communication equipment and system architectures.
