About The Position

Field Service Technician II provides intermediate-level support for marine control systems aboard commercial vessels, with increasing autonomy in system installation, calibration, and troubleshooting. This role balances hands-on service work with customer-facing responsibilities and requires strong problem-solving skills.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent technical training required; Bachelor’s in engineering/technology a plus.
  • 2-5 years of experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency with PLCs, electronic diagnostics, and mechanical systems.
  • Strong ability to work independently in the field and make sound technical judgments.
  • Must be able to travel and have a clear driving record in accordance with company driving guidelines
  • Clear background check and drug/alcohol screening
  • Lifting: up to 50 pounds
  • Adjusting or moving objects up to 50 pounds in all directions
  • Lift and carry: 50 pounds for 100 feet
  • Bending, stooping, walking and climbing stairs
  • Able to pass periodic medical evaluations and respirator fit tests to ensure continued compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps
  • Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces
  • Remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
  • Communicating with others to exchange information
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • Operating machinery and/or power tools
  • Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment
  • Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned
  • Required physical ability if mandated by customer or regulatory requirements

  • Bachelor’s in engineering/technology a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Independently prepare and execute work assignments by interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
  • Travel up to 75%, domestically and internationally, to shipyards, ports, and customer vessels.
  • Lead or support system installations, wiring terminations, calibrations, and operational demonstrations to customers and regulatory authorities.
  • Troubleshoot and repair complex electronic, hydraulic, and PLC-based control systems.
  • Access and modify PLC logic in coordination with the programming department.
  • Train and mentor Technician I staff on field practices.
  • Maintain detailed service documentation and communicate field modifications to engineering.
  • Represent the company to customers with professionalism and technical expertise.
  • Participate in 24-hour on-call rotation
